Economics and Plastic Surgery

Seems like not  a minute goes by without some new Hot Topic in the financial industry.  Many  have asked how does the economy affect Plastic Surgery?

It is an interesting topic and the  data would suggest that overall surgical procedures are down by  varying  degrees depending on the region; however the  reconstructive arm of plastic surgery has continued unchanged and the cosmetic plastic surgery procedures have not  directly correlated with economy as patients prioritize there well being and long-term investment in themselves perhaps over others expenditures.

Plastic surgery continues to  grow and develop with new  techniques for  rejuvenation, new devices such as cohesive gel breast implants, and non-surgical advances such as filler (juvederm/ restylane), Botox and Fraxel.

  • Despite 40 years of problems, capsular contracture remains a significant complication in aesthetic and cosmetic breast surgery. The incidence of contracture has been reported to be as high as 50 percent in some series, and despite suggestions by some surgeons that contracture is no longer a problem, it is still a significant issue for aesthetic and reconstructive breast patients.
