What is Breast Lift Surgery?
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise & reshape sagging breasts and reinforce skin stretch. A mastopexy can also reduce the size of the areolas, darker skin surrounding the nipples. Even if your breasts are smaller, you may still be a candidate for a lift. Implants can be inserted in conjunction with a breast lift, and can help with increasing firmness and size.
It is important to note that without the addition of implants or an additional injection of fatty tissue from a donor location on the body, a simple breast lift surgery will not increase the volume or size of the breasts,. Breast lifts traditionally remove excess skin around the breast and modify natural tissue, giving your breasts a firmer, more shapely look. If you desire to enhance the size of your breasts, we do suggest adding a breast augmentation surgery.
Dr. Adams will customize your breast lift to you and your body. There is no standard procedure that is best for all patients. Every surgery plan…every outcome…is unique to that patient. With so many factors involved in cosmetic breast surgery, i.e. pre-existing tissue abundance, genetics, natural anatomy of the chest wall/ torso/ breasts, overall skin quality and laxity, former breast feeding, nipple positioning, previous breast surgeries; no two patients are the same.
There are many reasons why a woman may opt to have breast lift surgery, but with any surgical decision, you should always consider your plastic surgeon’s recommendations first, before deciding it is the right surgery for you. While you may have sagging breasts or want to enhance the appearance of your chest, you always want to make sure you are a good candidate for the surgery. Your safety is our top priority.
Before consulting with your doctor, here are some factors that may help you decide if breast lift surgery is right for you:
Breasts are asymmetrical or oddly shaped – If your breasts differ in size or structure, a breast lift might be beneficial. Since a mastopexy not only lifts the breasts, but also reshapes and restores, this technique can be used to help with oddly shaped or uneven breasts.
Misaligned Nipples, Low Nipples, Sagging – If your nipples point towards the floor or appear to significantly fall below the crease of your breasts, then you may be a good candidate for a lift. The nipples are effective indicators of sagging and stretch and can be used to quickly gauge what might be best for you.
Breasts need restoration- Sagging breasts can occur for a number of reasons, some of which you may not even think about, but the main causes of sagging breasts and stretched breast skin are gravity, age, genetics, and weight fluctuations from pregnancy, weight loss, or general weight gain. Breast Lift with Re-positioning of Breast tissue
What does it accomplish?
Over the years, factors such as pregnancy, nursing, and the force of gravity take their toll on a woman’s breasts. As skin loses its elasticity, the breasts often lose their shape and firmness and begin to sag. This procedure can help reshape your breasts for a more youthful and comfortable appearance.

Dr. Adams will discuss the numerous factors that determine what procedure or combination of procedures will give you the best outcome.
Peri-Areolar Breast Lift Mastopexy / Nipple Repositioning- 1 Stage
This patient had low nipples and considerable skin & tissue stretch. She was treated with a silicone breast implant (304 cc) and a nipple repositioning.
Mastopexy with nipple repositioning allows for the nipples to be placed in a more natural location once the breasts have been lifted.
Breast Lift with P4HB Supportive Surgical Scaffold
A breast lift with P4HB Supportive Scaffold is a variation of a normal breast lift, but it adds in an extra level of support for the newly formed breasts. While breast lift procedures can help with sagging and the structure of your breasts, it will not necessarily prevent the same thing from happening down the road. This is because, even after a breast lift, you still have the same core anatomy; skin quality, proneness to stretching, etc.
By utilizing an innovative, surgical mesh material called GalaFLEX, you can significantly increase the longevity of your breast lift results and potentially prevent a relapse of sagging. Placed below the soft tissue of the breast, surgical scaffold aids in support and growth of the patient’s own tissue. Over 12-18 months the scaffold is safely absorbed into the body, leaving the natural support tissue in its place, almost like an internal bra cup.
